Northern Illinois University was locked down briefly early Friday morning after a student was injured in a shooting outside a campus residence. University public safety officials state the shooting appears to be an isolated incident between 2 individuals. The lockdown was lifted after the shooting suspect was taken into custody. On Valentine's Day 2008, a former NIU graduate student opened fire in a lecture hall, killing 5 people and wounding 19 others before turning the gun on himself. Friday's shooting follows an incident at the University of Alabama in Huntsville a week earlier in which a faculty member was arrested for fatally shooting 3 of her colleagues.
