Ken Steele

Co-Founder

Ken Steele is Co-Founder of Academica Group, Canada’s leading provider of market intelligence and strategic insight to higher education.  Ken heads up Academica’s consulting team, which has helped dozens of colleges and universities develop effective strategies for brand positioning, recruitment marketing, and enrolment management. Because he insists on strategy that is grounded in solid data, Ken works very closely with Academica’s research team, which surveys about a half-million post-secondary stakeholders every year, for institutional and government policy purposes.

Ken is perhaps best known as Editor of Canada’s leading higher education news daily, Academica’s Top Ten, which serves up a daily digest of higher education news, statistics, and trends affecting postsecondary branding, marketing, recruitment and pedagogy to more than 13,000 subscribers on campuses across Canada.

Ken has become one of Canada’s most sought-after speakers in higher education, delivering more than a hundred conference keynotes, campus presentations and board retreats every year.  Ken has written numerous white papers on student recruitment marketing and institutional positioning strategy, written a syndicated column on graphic design, managed a YouTube channel of higher ed commercials, and co-authored Canada’s first book on enrolment management, Strategic Enrolment Intelligence.

Ken considers himself a “lapsed academic,” who won more than 30 undergraduate and graduate awards in English literature before taking a permanent sabbatical from his PhD research at the University of Toronto. Ken is an active, long-standing member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), American Marketing Association (AMA), the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE), the World Futurist Society, the Chair Academy, and an honorary member of the Rotary Club of London South.
