September is almost over, not to mention Orientation, and campuses across Canada are onto the next phase (depending on what area you are in). Those of you who are in Orientation or first-year experience units might argue that the day/couple of days/week of Orientation programming may be over, but the transitioning of new students to your institution is not.

As the start of another academic year approaches, post-secondary institutions across Canada are preparing for classes, welcoming new students (plus their family and friends), and fulfilling their respective mission and vision statements.

Introduction

I hope that you are having a good start to the academic year at your institution.  I wanted to follow up my first blog entry on Orientation with a discussion on the feasibility of making Orientation programs mandatory for new students to attend.

September is upon us and at institutions around the world. Particularly here in Canada, Orientation has become an increasingly important opportunity for post-secondary schools to welcome, inform, and prepare their new students.
